Voice channels (audio rooms)

Discord-style always-on voice channels. Drop in, talk, drop out.

Voice channels are persistent audio rooms inside a community. Unlike scheduled live sessions, they don't have a start time, a host, or an end β€” members hop in whenever they feel like talking and leave whenever.

Joining a voice channel

  1. Open the community.
  2. Find Voice channels in the right sidebar (web) or the section under "Online now" (mobile).
  3. Tap a channel name to join.
  4. Your mic is on by default. Tap the mic button to mute, the door button to leave.

You can hear and be heard by anyone else in the same channel. Avatars show with a green ring when someone is speaking.

Creating channels (owners + admins + moderators)

  1. Open the community.
  2. Hit the + button on the voice channels card.
  3. Give it a name (e.g. "General", "Off-topic", "Study sessions") and optionally a description and a max participants cap.
  4. Save. The channel appears in the list immediately.

What channels are NOT

  • Not scheduled events β€” for that, use Live Sessions on the calendar.
  • Not video β€” audio only. No camera, no screen share.
  • Not recorded β€” conversations are ephemeral.

Tips

  • Encourage members to set channel names like a Discord server β€” by purpose, not by topic.
  • If the room is empty, your mic still works β€” useful for testing.
  • Each room has a max-participant cap if you set one; without a cap, it's effectively unlimited.
