Custom emojis for your community

Custom emojis are a fun way to give your community its own visual vocabulary. Once uploaded, anyone in the community can drop them into posts, comments, and chat messages using :slug: syntax.

Uploading custom emojis (owners + admins)

1. Go to Community settings → Emojis.
2. Click Upload emoji.
3. Pick a short lowercase slug (e.g. partyparrot, llama_dance). Letters, numbers, and underscores only.
4. Upload an image (PNG with transparent background works best, 128–512px).
5. Save. The emoji is immediately usable.

Using emojis as a member

Type :emojislug: anywhere — post body, comment, reply, chat message — and it'll render as the inline image when posted. The full list of available emojis is at the bottom of Community settings → Emojis (members can view, can't edit).

Where they render

• Post bodies (feed + post detail)
• Comments and replies
• Community chat messages

DMs don't substitute community emojis — they're community-scoped by design.

Tips

• Keep slugs short and memorable. Two words max.
• Transparent backgrounds blend in with both light and dark mode.
• Removing an emoji doesn't unrender it from existing posts — the image URL is still valid until you delete the underlying file.
